George Orwell’s Birthday
Eric Arthur Blair was born June 25, 1903, in Motihari, Bengal, India. His father was a minor British official. Blair began writing early in life and his first book appeared in 1933, Down and Out in Paris and London where he first used the pseudonym, George Orwell.
Blair’s most notable works were Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984).
Blair died in London, England on January 21, 1950, at the age of 47.
